Welcome Back to Football Law

It has been over a year since Football Law’s last article was published, providing analysis of the proposed European Super League (“ESL”) and the challenges it and football’s governing bodies face from the same. That was a great article to end the “first stage” of Football Law, particularly for the opportunity to collaborate and write that article with other sports lawyers and sports law academics.

Coincidentally, as the ESL has resurfaced recently with the European Court of Justice hearing the Spanish court’s request for a preliminary ruling on FIFA’s and UEFA’s market position, Football Law is now back.

Each of Football Law’s Overviews have been updated, providing overviews of football’s governing bodies, the English football league system, the Court of Arbitration for Sport and football discipline dealt with by the FA.

Further, the publication of articles will resume shortly, providing analysis of the latest football law news and decisions, such as announcements from football’s governing bodies and leagues and their latest decisions concerning disciplinary and regulatory matters.

You can subscribe to Football Law free of charge to ensure you do not miss any updates made to the overviews or the publication of new articles, and Football Law can also be followed on Twitter and LinkedIn.

Acknowledgments

I would like to thank the sports litigation team at Squire Patton Boggs for the last 12 months I spent with them as an employed barrister, in particular: Stephen Sampson, Katie Smith and (albeit briefly) Henry Goldschmidt. It was a pleasure to work with you and you helped me learn a tremendous amount and develop as a sports lawyer. I hope to reflect that in Football Law going forward.

I would like to thank Sean Cottrell from LawInSport, again for the support and enthusiasm you showed to me when I started to build a sports law career but also for showing that same support and enthusiasm again recently. It means a lot to me, and I hope Football Law and LawInSport can collaborate going forward.

Finally, I would like to thank Jack Bedford (again) for his creativity, willingness and commitment to helping me with the designs for the website, and likewise to Sumi Oh.
